I took this image on a gray day in January. The scene was attractive enough for me to park and walk up the road in sub freezing weather. Looking at it I thought it might make a decent black and white image.
My Lightroom skills are still weak but I worked hard to make a dramatic B&W image out of this. The result is ok but just. So I went back to the original RAW file from my Panasonic LX7 and worked a little harder, using the HSL (Hue Saturation and Luminance) tool to brighten some areas, darken others. Looks to me like this image is just a better candidate for keeping the color than it is for a B&W conversion.
What do you think?

The b/w is really excellent. Well done.
Thanks Mike for the compliment and for taking the time to leave it on my blog. Glad you like my photo.
Reblogged this on bearspawprint.
I’m leaning toward B/W, both a pleasing, but B/W is a bit more stark…cold…captures the environment. But what do I know?
